➡️Medical Expedition Research Arrangments

Sherpa Brothers Trek has long been recognized for its expertise in organizing and managing complex research expeditions in the rugged terrains of Nepal. In addition to offering trekking and mountaineering services, the company has been instrumental in supporting high-altitude medical research projects in some of the most challenging environments of the Himalayan region. Our involvement in three significant medical research expeditions conducted by Medex UK and Medical expedition UK at Chamlang basecamp, 4200m, (2003), Dhaulagiri Hidden Valley Base Camp 5200m, (2008), and Larke Pass in the Manaslu region, 5200m , (2015)—has been invaluable for the success of these studies.
Sherpa Brothers arranged all the arrangements in Nepal to the complex research project of Medex uk and Medical expedition UK providing from staffs, guides, logistic, research related tools, chair, table , tents to transportation and all locally managed task including paper work. This complex research involved researcher participants between 55 to 60 each time, besides more than 130 of Nepalese crew. Details of Research can be viewed at https://www.medex.org.uk/.
Since the research were conducting in the remote high Himalayan regions, multiple challenges were involved, altitude, terrain, weather conditions, logistical coordination to storage and preservation of research supplies.

☞ Altitude and terrain The high-altitude locations, such as Chamlang base camp, 4200m, Dhaulagiri (5200m) and Larke passes 5200m posed risks of altitude sickness for both crew and researchers. The rugged terrain made accessibility difficult, requiring careful planning for safe transport routes.
☞ Weight restrictions, Medical supplies can be heavy and bulky. We had to balance the weight of the supplies with the capacity of the porters for transport, ensuring that critical items were prioritized.
☞ Weather Conditions Unpredictable weather, including snow and rain, could delay transport schedules. Our team had to remain flexible and adapt to changing conditions to ensure that supplies arrived on time.
☞ Logistical Coordination: Coordinating the movement of supplies over multiple high passes (such as Franch and Dhampus), Larke pass, ambolapcha pass required meticulous planning. This involved scheduling, communication with local crew, and ensuring that all necessary items were in place.
☞ Storage and Preservation: Ensuring that medical supplies remained secure and in good condition during transport was crucial. This often involved using specialized containers to protect against moisture and temperature fluctuations.
Despite these challenges, the dedication and professionalism of our team ensured that all medical supplies were successfully transported, enabling the research teams to carry out their important work effectively.
➡️Sherpa Brothers Trek's Role In Three Pioneering Medical Research Expeditions In Nepal
➡️Mera Peak Base Camp - 2003
In 2003, Sherpa Brothers assisted in organizing a complex medical research expedition Mein Chamlang base camp and Mera la , one of the highest trekking destinations in Nepal. This remote area provided a unique environment for studying the effects of high-altitude conditions on human health. Sherpa Brothers Trek arranged for all necessary logistics, including transportation, staff management, permits, and supplies, ensuring that the research team could carry out their work in such a challenging location. The data collected from this research contributed to a better understanding of high-altitude sickness and its prevention.

➡️Dhaulagiri Hidden Valley Base Camp - 2008
In 2008, another significant medical research project took place in the Hidden Valley area of the Dhaulagiri region. This area, known for its stunning beauty and isolation. Sherpa Brothers provided critical logistical support for the research team, including coordinating the transport of research equipment, arranging guides and porters, and securing the necessary permits.

➡️Larke Pass, Manaslu Region - 2015
The 2015 expedition in the Manaslu region at the Larke Pass was another major research project arranged locally by Sherpa Brothers. Larke Pass, located at an altitude of over 5,100 meters, presents significant logistical challenges due to its remote location and difficult terrain. Despite these obstacles, Sherpa Brothers Trek successfully arranged all the logistics, transport of research equipment and necessary arrangements for the research team to conduct studies smoothly.
