Itinerary

Greetings from Sherpabrothers Treks! On your arrival day, we will pick you up at the airport and transfer you to your hotel, where you will receive a welcome drink. In the evening, we invite you to a welcome dinner hosted by Sherpabrothers Treks at a traditional Nepalese cultural restaurant.

After breakfast, your tour guide will take you on a half-day tour of Kathmandu, visiting UNESCO World Heritage sites. After the tour, you will have time to prepare for your trek, including shopping, packing, obtaining permits and meeting with your trekking guide.

We will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the domestic airport for our flight to Bhadrapur. During the flight time, you will have the opportunity to see the stunning views of the great Himalayan trails, including iconic peaks. The flight experience is often referred to as a free mountain flight. Then we will drive to Taplejung 9-10 hrs, and along the way, you can enjoy beautiful landscapes, including rolling hills covered with tea bushes, stone houses, diverse lifestyle of various ethnic groups and you can enjoy your first view of Kanchanjanga from Pauwabhanjyang. You won’t feel exhausted from the long drive due to the beautiful blend of nature along the way.

After having breakfast, catch a local Jeep or hire jeep (it is optional) and start our second day with a 6-9 hrs drive to Sekathum. Trekkers love to start their trek from Taplejung to reach Sekhathu, but it usually takes 2-3 days of walking, to shorten the itinerary most trekkers use a Jeep. On our journey, we will pass through several villages along the Tamor River, including Mitlung, Chiruwa, Tapethok, Lelep and others. The Kanchanjunga National Park checkpoint is located in Tapethok, where permits are checked before proceeding to Sekathum. You won’t feel the exhaustion of the long drive thanks to the beautiful views of glacial rivers, valleys populated by Limbu, Sherpa and Chhetri people and striking rocky landscapes with stunning flora and fauna.s

After two days of driving our trek begins in Sekathum. After having breakfast, your adventures and enjoyable journey begins on a tricky trail that goes uphill and downhill along the gorge. Along the trail you will explore Gunsa Khola, waterfalls, the tiny commune of Ghaiyabari and Jonggim. And then we will reach Amjilosa for the rest of our journey.

After having breakfast we will head to Gyabla from Amjilosa, which is also known as Kyapra. It feels amazing to walk through a dense forest filled with rhododendrons, bamboos, oaks and other trees with breathtaking waterfalls along the trail. From this vantage point, you can admire magnificent mountain views and even encounter a red panda. Slowly we make our way and we will reach Sherpa village of Gyabla for the rest of our journey.

Following the usual routine, proceed to Gunsa. We walk along a steep drop and bit rocky trail through woodlands filled with rhododendron, fir trees and many others by the Gunsa riverbank, leading us to Phale valley. You can enjoy the Yak pasture and potato fields along the way. After crossing Phale valley, we walk through fields and larch forests along the riverbed of the Gunsa Khola, and we will reach wide valley Gunsa village for overnight stay.

As usual, we proceed to Khambachen with a gradual ascent through the wide pine forest along the river’s east bank, and we may encounter blue sheep and snow leopard. After crossing the rickety wooden and stone bridge and navigating through landslide-porn areas, we glimpse mount Jannu(7710m).  Encounter the green glacier valleys and we will reach our destination for an overnight stay.

After several days of walking and creating memories, we take a rest day in Khambachen to acclimatize our bodies to the higher altitude. And we will have a short hike to nearby glaciers and lake with the stunning views of mount Khabur(6,332m), Phone(6,645m),  Jannu and a snow-capped ridge rises prominently beyond the Kanchanjunga Glacier.

From here, we trek alongside the side moraine of the Kanchanjanga Glacier, following the riverbank. We will explore the beauty of the Ramdang pasture area, the Ramdang monastery, and the barern landscapes of the glacier, all featuring breathtaking views of mountains, including Mera Peak, along the trail. And then we will rich in our destination for today.

Excitedly, we will head to Pang Pema, the north Base Camp of Mt. Kanchanjanga, hiking through close to the Lhonak Glacier. After several days of trekking, you will feel rejuvenated and inspired by the stunning beauty of the third highest mountain, Kanchanjanga adorned with fluttering prayer flags as you reach the base camp. After cultivating these memories, we will return to Lhonak for an overnight stay.

After soaking in the beauty of Pang Pema, we will return to Gunsa, following the same route we took to reach the north base camp. We reach to Gunsa where we spend a night.

Our journey to the south base camp of Kanchanjanga begins from here. We walk through a dense forest, passing by solitary dwellings and a few tea houses. If luck is on our side, we will have the opportunity to spot snow leopards along the trail. And we will arrive in Sele Le for our stay, if the weather is clear you can enjoy the stunning views of Makalu and Everest from Sele Le.

There are no tea houses between Sele Le and Tseram, so we need to pack lunch to reach our destination. We will hike-up and pass through the high-altitude passes including Sinion La (4,440m/2,758ft), Mirgin La (4,480m/2,783ft) and Sinelapche Bhanjyang(4,645m/2,886ft). While crossing these passes, we will enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Mt. Janu, Everest, Makalu, Baruntse and Kanchanjanga. After crossing the passes, the trail leads us to a steep drop down to Tseram for an overnight stay.

From Tseram, we will begin our exciting journey towards the South Base Camp, gradually climbing uphill. Along the trail, we will traverse the Yanglung Glacier, enjoying views of Rathong and Kabru. After having lunch at Tseram, we will hike up to the Oakthang Kanchanjanga South Base Camp and we will enjoy breathtaking close-up views of Kanchanjanga South, surrounded by towering peaks. And we will back to Tseram for an overnight stay.

There is no rush to wake up early for breakfast. Afterward, we will head to Tortong, walking through the rhododendron forest, which brings us serenity. We will trek down, passing alongside the Simbuwa Khola, while enjoying the captivating mountain views. And we will stay overnight at Tortong.

We will proceed to Yamphuding the largest Sherpa village, the trail steeply descends into the deep valley of Amjilosa Khola, featuring frequent ascents and descents as we pass through Lasiya Bhanjyang and Dhupi Bhanjyang. We will once again enjoy the stunning view of Mount Janu from Lasiya Bhanjyang. The Kanchanjanga restricted area ends here and we will stay at Yamphuding.

Our trek wraps up here as we take with us bundles of unforgettable memories, after breakfast we will return to Kanyam by jeep. It takes 8-9 hrs drive from Yamphudin, along the way we will enjoy the beautiful landscapes of eastern mountains, the local lifestyle, terraced fields and cardamom cultivation. Then we will arrive at Kanyam for an overnight stay.

After having breakfast, we will explore the beauty of Kanyam, where stunning rolling hills are covered in meticulously manicured tea bushes, inviting you to lose yourself for a while. Then we will drive to Bhadrapur, fly back to Kathmandu and drop you off at your hotel.

To ensure a smooth departure, we will pick you up from your hotel and transport you to the international airport. You'll be dropped off 3 hours prior to your flight time, allowing you plenty of time for check-in and security procedures.
