Tsum Valley, famously known as the “valley of Monasteries” is a lesser-known trekking destination with a hidden paradise that embodies untouched natural beauty surrounded by

towering and pristine mountains with breathtaking vistas of the Sringi Himal, Ganesh Himal, Boudha Himal, Himal Chuli and many others. This remote and nestled valley is situated in the majestic Manaslu region of Nepal, with an altitude ranging from 1905 to 5094 meters. Until 2008, the valley was restricted to international trekkers as the Nepalese government aim to preserve its unique culture and spiritual significance.

This enchanting region is home to the unique culture of the Tsumba people, which are intricately blended with Tibetan traditions and a deep sense of spirituality. The valley is dotted with ancient Buddhist monasteries such as Mu Gompa , Rachen Gompa and Chisopani Gompa where monks have practiced for centuries and which are rich in history and spiritual significance, Milareppa caves where Tibet’s legendary 11th –century yogi and poet attained spiritual awakening through years of profound meditation. Itinerary

Greetings from Sherpabrothers Treks! On your arrival day, we will pick you up at the airport and transfer you to your hotel, where you will receive a welcome drink. In the evening, we invite you to a welcome dinner hosted by Sherpabrothers Treks at a traditional Nepalese cultural restaurant.

After breakfast, your tour guide will take you on a half-day tour of Kathmandu, visiting UNESCO World Heritage sites. After the tour, you will have time to prepare for your trek, including shopping, packing, obtaining permits and meeting with your trekking guide.

Early in the morning we drive from Kathmandu to Machhakhola driving through Dhading Besi and Aarughat with packed breakfast. Along the way you can enjoy beautiful landscapes and encounter some bumpy roads. Machhakhola lies at an elevation of approximately 900meters, nestled in the foothills of mountains along the banks of the Budi Gandaki River. Overnight stay in tea house.

After having breakfast our trek start from here, we will trek along the east banks of the Budi Gandaki River gorge. It will be lovely to walk through the foothills of the huge mountains while enjoying several breathtaking waterfalls along the way. The trail often crosses back and forth over the river using suspension bridges as we walk. Finally we will arrive at Jagat, the main entrance to the Manaslu Conservation Area, where our permits will be checked. We will spend the night in the beautiful village called Jagat, which is a settlement of Gurung people, nestled in the foothills of the mountains. Having already verified our permits for Manaslu and Tsum Valley at the entry checkpoint in Jagat, we will continue onward to Lokpa, following a rocky ridge trail that waves through ascents and decents passing the villages of Sallery, Philim, Sirdibas and Ekle Bhatti. Along the way, the day treats you to stunning landscapes adorned with stone houses, terraced filds, fluttering prayer flags dancing in the mountain breeze and sacred Mani walls. And then Lokpa the entry point village of Tsum valley, we will spend a night at Lokpa, the village is surrounded by dense forest with stunning views of Himchuli and Bodhi Himal and unique traditional houses. Today begins with immense joy as we walk through dense forests, playing a delightful game of hide and seek with breathtaking views of Himalchuli, Boudha and Ganesh Himal. These stunning vistas effortlessly distract us from the challenges of the deep slender, narrow gorges and the undulating trail of ascents and descents. Arriving around lunch time in the picturesque village of Chumling, adorned with charming stone-paved settlements, we find ourselves with ample time to explore its ancient monasteries including Panago Gompa, Mani Dhungyur and Gurwa Gompa. An overnight stay in tea house.

In the morning we make our way to Chokangparo, the gateway of the Upper Tsum Valley which is the largest settlement situated on flat land. Following the path alongside the Sahir Khola River, we will arrive at Dumje, another sizable settlement. From Dumje we will ascend the hills to reach Chhokangparo with stunning views of Himalchuli and Ganesh Himal. While walking through these settlements you will explore the culture, lifestyle, architect of ethnic people. An overnight stay in tea house.

Today promises to be a journey rich in spiritual significance, beginning with visits to monasteries, cave, mani walls and fluttering payer flags. As we traverse this sacred landscape, we will encounter the revered cave where the Tibetan Buddhist yogi and poet Millareppa once meditated , local lore claims his footprints are forever etched into the stone .Strolling through lush green meadows we will make our way to the Chi Pu monastery. After crossing the southeast bank of the Siyar khola, our path will lead us to Pangdun. There, we will delve into the monasteries, discovering stones adorned with intricate carvings, beautifully scripted papers, and a magnificent prayer wheel. And then we will reach to Nile for an overnight stay.

Today, we are heading close to the Nepal-Tibet boarder, where Mu Gompa is located at the highest point of the Tsum Valley trek, standing at 3700meters. Established in 1895, Mu Gompa holda sacred significance and houses many religious texts, including the Kangyur. From Mu Gompa, you can enjoy stunning views of the Lungdang Glacier, the Mailatsachin Pass (5,093m) and Tapla Pass (5,104m) along with the surrounding mountains. An overnight stay in tea house

After enjoying hearty breakfast, we will make our way back to Chumling. The journey promises breakthtaking views of Ganesh Himal, Himalchuli, Sangrila Himal and many other magnificent peaks. Chumling is captivating village located to the south of Sangrila Himal, where you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the lifestyle of the local ethnic community, characterized by their charming Tibetan-style houses. From Chumling, we will set off toward Philim, where the journey will allow us to appreciate the vibrant lifestyle of the Lokpa villagers against the backdrop of the stunning Samba Falls. After soaking in these beautiful sights, we’ll arrive at our destination for the day in Philim. An overnight stay in tea house

From Phillim we will proceed to Machha  Khola, soaking in the stunning views of numerous waterfalls cascading along the Budigandaki River. Our day will be filled with the delight of these beautiful falls as we trek along the trail. An overnight stay in tea house

Today, we are driving back to Kathmandu after savoring the beauty of our journey, filled with wonderful and joyful memories. Last minute shopping and night in Kathmandu. 

Pick up from hotel 3 hours earlier of departure time and drop at the Tribhuvan international airport to deport home.

The Tsum Valley trek is a moderately challenging journey, offering untouched natural beauty with the cultural and spiritual richness of the valley’s people. The journey begins with a 7-8 hours jeep driving through the Dhading Besi, Aarughat, and Sotikhola winding through hills and occasionally bumpy roads. The trek begins at Machhakhola taking you through natural beauty and stunning landscape until you reaches your destination. From beginning to end the trail presents a variety of challenging terrains that require you to be physically prepared for long walking days- typically 6-7 hours of trekking per day. The route includes mix of gradual ascents and descents, deep slender, narrow gorges as well as several suspension bridge crossing over glacial rivers. Strolling through lush green meadows and valleys dotted with grazing Yaks, you will wander beneath pine and rhododendron forests, with towering peaks rising all around, as you gradually make your way to the Tsum Valley.

The total Tsum valley trek trek includes 14 days from arrival to departure, the actual trekking duration is 13 days of walking, since you can customize your own itinerary for this trip.

 Tsum valley trek is considererd moderate to challenging grade, it is suitable for trekkers with good level of fitness.Some sections involve steep ascent and decents.

Tsum Valley Trek, accommodation is basic but functional, mostly in the form of teahouses .You will get simple rooms with basic beds.

Many lodges offers charging  facilities for which you need to pay hourly basis. It would be worth to bring portble power bank as electricity can be inconsistent. 

 

You can use Nepal local  SIM cards with data plan or wifi is available in almost all lodges along the trail.  Although connection may sometime  be weak due too the remote geography. 

You can expect mostly birds, small mammals, and some rare Himalayan species.Birds like Himalayan Monal (Danphe),Himalayan Griffon Vulture and mammals like Red Panda,Muntjac (Barking Deer) & Musk Dee.

Yes, we provide a good-quality, custom-made, 4-season'super-down' warm sleeping bag. We also recommend packing a lightweight down jacket for usage in the tea house rooms at night. If you prefer to bring your own sleeping bag please ensure it is of mountaineering standard with a minimum loft of 800 for the jacket, and a minimum rating of -6°C for the sleeping bag.
