Itinerary

Upon landing at Tribhuwan International Airport, our representative will warmly greet you and transfer you to your hotel for check-in and a refreshing welcome drink. In the evening, you will enjoy a traditional welcome dinner at a cultural restaurant, brief briefing about your  Himalayan adventure.

Your morning begins with a guided tour of key cultural landmarks and UNESCO World Heritage sites around Kathmandu. Afterward, you will meet your trekking guide and embark on a scenic overland drive to Manthali in the Ramechhap district, where you will check into a comfortable lodge to rest up for the early flight the next morning.

An early morning transfer takes you to the airport for a thrilling 20-minute scenic mountain flight to Lukla. After meeting your porters, you will begin a gentle trek north past mani stones, prayer wheels, and suspension bridges crossing the Tharo Kosi River, eventually arriving at Phakding for a cozy overnight stay.

Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,446m, Approx. 5.5 hrs)
Today’s trail follows the west bank of the Dudh Kosi River through dense pine and rhododendron forests, entering Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo. After crossing multiple suspension boards—including the iconic Hillary Bridge—you will make a steady, scenic ascent up to the bustling Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar.

A steep morning climb rewards you with your first breathtaking panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam from the Everest View Hotel. You will then explore the historic village of Khumjung—visiting its famous school and monastery founded by Sir Edmund Hillary—before trekking through lush rhododendron trails down to Kyangjuma.

The trail climbs steadily from Kyangjuma up to Mongla ridge before descending sharply to Phortse Tenga, crossing rushing waterfalls and passing through fragrant fir and rhododendron forests. As you gradually ascend toward Dole, majestic views of Ama Dablam and neighboring giants keep you company all the way to your lodge.

Leaving the tree line behind, you step into a wide-open alpine landscape as the trail climbs past small stone-built settlements like Laforma and Laza. The valley opens up dramatically with towering views of Cho Oyu and Thamserku, leading you smoothly into Machhermo for a relaxing afternoon.

To ensure your safety before heading to higher elevations, today is dedicated to resting and adjusting to the thin air. You will take an afternoon ridge hike up to roughly 4,800 meters for stunning valley panoramas, followed by an insightful, free altitude sickness lecture hosted by the local rescue post volunteers.

An early pre-dawn push takes you up the steep switchbacks of Gokyo Ri, where you will witness one of the most magnificent sunrise panoramas on earth, encompassing Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu rising above the glowing glacial lakes. You will spend the rest of the day resting and soaking in the tranquil alpine beauty around the village.

A short morning climb takes you out of the meadows and onto the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa Glacier, the largest glacier in the Himalayas. As you weave past the stunning, deep turquoise waters of the first and second Gokyo lakes, the mighty peak of Cho Oyu looms overhead, welcoming you right into the picturesque Gokyo lakeside settlement.

Leaving the main trail behind, you embark on a challenging ascent over the rugged Renjo La Pass, where the breathtaking vistas stretch across remote valleys and all the way into Tibet. After conquering the pass, a long, rewarding descent brings you down into the quiet, isolated hamlet of Marlung.

You descend further down through ancient Himalayan trade routes once heavily used by Tibetan yak caravans. The trail leads you into the culturally rich and historic village of Thame, home to one of the region's oldest and most spiritually significant monasteries nestled against dramatic cliff sides. Small picturesque hamlets, and mani walls as you loop back toward the vibrant hub of Namche Bazaar. It is a wonderful chance to enjoy a hot coffee, shop, and celebrate your successful high-altitude loop.

Following a familiar path, you retrace your steps down the steep hillsides, cross the suspension bridges over the Dudh Kosi River, and pass through Monjo and Phakding. Your final evening in the mountains is spent in Lukla, sharing stories and celebrating with your trekking crew.

After an early morning breakfast at the airstrip, you board a scenic mountain flight back to Manthali, followed by a transfer back to your hotel in Kathmandu, where you can unwind and reflect on your incredible Himalayan journey

Reserved as a crucial flexible buffer day for unpredictable Himalayan weather conditions that sometimes disrupt visual flight rules (VFR) at Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla or alternative airfields like Ramechhap, this day can be utilized to absorb unexpected flight delays, morning fog, or low visibility, or spent enjoying a relaxing final day in Kathmandu if all previous flights run smoothly

Your unforgettable Gokyo Renjola  adventure concludes today. Depending on your flight schedule,  we  will transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport for your journey home, leaving you with lifelong memories of the high Himalayas, rich culture, and warm hospitality.

Trip Notes

➡️ Trail Overview

The Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek is a spectacular high-altitude adventure through the beautiful Khumbu region of Nepal. The trail takes you through Sherpa villages, rhododendron and pine forests, alpine landscapes, the stunning Gokyo Lakes and across the challenging Renjo La Pass (5,360 m).

Expect around 6–8 hours of walking on most trekking days, with steep climbs, rocky trails, suspension bridges and high-altitude terrain. The reward is unforgettable views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho Oyu.

➡️ Trek Preparation

Good physical fitness is important for the Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek. Regular walking, hiking and cardio exercise before your trip will help you build stamina for long days at high altitude.

Previous high-altitude trekking experience is helpful, but with proper preparation, a suitable itinerary and good acclimatization, the trek is achievable for fit and determined trekkers.

If you have any existing health concerns, please inform us when booking so our team can plan appropriate support.

➡️ Acclimatization

Acclimatization is one of the most important parts of this trek. Our itinerary allows time for your body to adjust gradually to increasing altitude, particularly around Namche Bazaar and Gokyo.

At Gokyo, you can explore the beautiful lakes and, depending on the itinerary and conditions, hike toward Gokyo Ri before attempting the Renjo La crossing.

A slow pace, plenty of water, adequate rest and listening to your guide are essential for a safe and enjoyable trek.

➡️ Renjo La Pass Crossing

The highlight of the journey is crossing Renjo La Pass at approximately 5,360 m (17,585 ft). The climb from Gokyo is steep and demanding, especially near the pass.

After reaching the top, you are rewarded with breathtaking Himalayan views before descending toward Lungden and the traditional Thame Valley. The pass connects the Gokyo Valley with the Thame/Lungden side of the Khumbu region.

Weather can change quickly at this altitude, so the final crossing should always be made according to trail and weather conditions.

➡️ Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is essential for the Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek. Your policy should cover high-altitude trekking, medical treatment, emergency evacuation and trip delays or cancellation.

Although our experienced team takes every reasonable precaution, mountain weather, altitude and terrain can be unpredictable. Proper insurance gives you additional peace of mind throughout the journey.

Please also inform us of any existing health conditions when making your booking.

➡️ Best Time to Trek

The best seasons for the Gokyo Renjo La Pass Trek are spring (March–May) and autumn (late September–November).

Autumn: Clear skies, dry trails and excellent mountain visibility make October and November particularly popular.

Spring: Pleasant trekking conditions, blooming rhododendrons and beautiful mountain scenery make March to May an excellent choice.

Winter: The trek is possible for experienced trekkers, but heavy snow and very cold temperatures can make Renjo La challenging.

Monsoon: June to August brings rain, clouds and slippery trails, making the high pass less suitable for normal trekking.

➡️ Accommodation & Meals

In Kathmandu, you will stay at a comfortable 3-star category hotel, normally on a twin-sharing basis with breakfast included.

During the trek, accommodation is provided in traditional mountain tea houses and lodges. These provide a warm and simple place to rest while experiencing genuine Sherpa hospitality.

Meals are prepared locally and provide the energy needed for long trekking days. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are generally included during the trekking period.

➡️ Food Allergies & Special Requirements

Please inform us about any food allergies, dietary restrictions or special requirements when booking.

Our team will make reasonable arrangements wherever local facilities allow, helping you enjoy your trek comfortably and safely.

➡️ Internal Flights to Lukla

The trek normally begins with a flight to Lukla, the gateway to the Everest region.

During busy trekking seasons, flights may operate from Ramechhap/Manthali Airport instead of Kathmandu because of air traffic. The drive from Kathmandu to Ramechhap normally takes several hours, followed by a short flight to Lukla.

Mountain flights are highly dependent on weather conditions, so delays or cancellations can occur. We recommend keeping some flexibility in your itinerary.

➡️ If Your Lukla Flight Is Cancelled

Mountain weather can cause flight delays or cancellations. If your flight is cancelled, we will help arrange the next available flight when conditions improve.

For travelers with limited time, a helicopter may be an alternative, subject to availability, weather and additional cost.

An overland option through Salleri may also be considered when appropriate.

➡️ Baggage Allowance

Lukla flights have strict baggage restrictions because of aircraft weight limitations.

The usual allowance is approximately:

Checked baggage: 10 kg
Hand luggage: 5 kg

We provide a trekking duffel bag for your main trekking equipment, which is carried by porters. Please pack efficiently and keep within the recommended weight limit.

Proper equipment is essential for a comfortable and safe Renjo La crossing. Conditions can change quickly at high altitude, so warm and weather-resistant clothing is particularly important.
