Forbidden kingdom of upper Mustang region Trek.

Mustang was once independent kingdom of Lo, the current Lomangthang is north center of Nepal bordering with China, Tibet plateau. At the end of the 18th century the kingdom was annexed by Nepal government. Jigme Dorje Palbar Bista (born 1933), is the unofficial king, dynasty of Ame Pal who founded the Lomangthang as a Buddhist kingdom in 1380, still peoples from the Upper Mustang recognized current unofficial king as a king. From the 15th century to the 17th century, it was the strategic location and granted Mustang control over the trade between the Himalayas and India. Mustang is mostly dominant by the Buddhist culture and heritage. Lots of ancient caves, monasteries and one with 1300 years old called Logakar monastery lies in Logaykar and majority of other monasteries and caves are not less than 500 years old. The Mustang trekking will reward with a rare visit and perfectly untouched most area by modernity, preserving its ancient Buddhist culture, traditions and invaluable art objects in high Himalayan desert. Lowa people, their un match life style, secret Hindu holy place Muktinath Culture of Thakali people in Jomsom are exceptions of Mustang trek. Upper Mustang trek start short 25 minute flight to Pokhara and 15 minutes panoramic mountain flight to Jomsom airport along the Kaligandaki gorge (The deepest gorge in the world). After lending at Jomsom airport the trail heads to medieval village of Kagbeni and continuously heading north Kagbeni towards Lo mangthang 3750m. This trek is suitable to average physically fit trekkers with passion of exploring culture and life style in High Himalayan desert.

Itinerary

  • Day 01 Arrival at Tribhuvan International airport Kathmandu. Pick up by Sherpa Brothers treks representative, transfer to hotel check in and welcome drink from receptionist. Rest and briefing about trip, O/N in hotel with bed & breakfast
  • Day 02 Half day sightseeing around world heritage sites in Kathmandu valley and preparation for the trip. In the evening welcome dinner offer from Sherpa Brothers treks at typical Nepalese cultural restaurant, O/N in hotel with bed & breakfast
  • Day 03 Fly 3o minutes or Drive to Pokhara [800m / 2624m], sighseeing in Lake side, O/N in hotel with bed & breakfast
  • Day 04 Morning senic flight to Jomsom and trek to Kagbeni [2,858m / 9,374ft], O/N in tea house : Approx 3 hours

Physical Grading Level

Two circles indicate the moderate grade  trip. It  usually require maximum 6-7 hours of walking every day. This is not an altitude demanding trip but it certainly  demands physical. Participants must be physically fit, positive attitude & an excellent health. Previous trekking and hiking experience are worth having.  It is vital that participants with pre-existing medical problems or conditions make these known to Sherpa Brothers Trek at the time of booking.

Accommodation and Food on Trip

3 nights in 3 star’s standard hotel with BB plan in Kathmandu and 2 night in Pokhara at same standard hotel on twin sharing based. 11 days standard twin sharing tea house accommodation and food (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and tea/ coffee).

Travel Insurances

All our routes are scouted to ensure the trails are safe and the facilities along route are of an acceptable standard. In addition, we have vast experience of trekking at altitude and are trained to deal with Acute Altitude Sickness. However, due to terrain, weather and altitude, risk is not always predictable in the Himalaya. To ensure you have a worry free time with us, personal travel insurance is essential to cover the cost of unforeseen accident, illness or rescue. The costs involved can be large and personally overwhelming in the unlikely event of accident or injury.
All Nepalese staff, guides and porters employed by Sherpa Brothers Pvt. Ltd. are covered locally but we regret that we cannot offer insurance for our clients.
